Islamabad Toastmasters Club conducted Annual Table Topics Contest this week at NICS, Lok Virsa, Islamabad. A large number of guests and families were invited. DTM Mazhar Jamil was the Contest Master and he conducted the contest with the help of four judges. Twelve Toastmasters participated in the contest. They were all sent to a separate waiting room and called into the hall one by one. They were all given the same topic and each speaker had to speak for minimum one minute and maximum two and a half minutes. The Table Topics Contest question was, “If you were a traffic signal, which light would you like to be and why?”
All the speakers spoke and performed very well however after finalizing the judges’ points, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi won the first prize, Toastmaster Umer Javed Chughtai second while Toastmaster Bilal Javed won the third prize. DTM Mazhar Jamil distributed the Table Topics Contest awards.
Moreover, in the Annual Award Distribution Ceremony, several members were awarded with certificates, ribbons and awards based on their performance and contributions to the success of Islamabad Toastmasters Club. President Islamabad Toastmasters Club, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi announced the names of the members. The members who received certificates of appreciation were Toastmaster Mian Muhammad Ramzan, Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi, Toastmaster Asim Hussain, Toastmaster Ehsan ul Haq Abbasi and Toastmaster Nauman Faridi. DTM Mazhar Jamil was given a special award for his continuous support and guidance to the club.
The ceremony was followed by a dinner and all the members and guests enjoyed very much. When asked for their comments, all the guests shared their views and appreciated the efforts of Islamabad Toastmasters Club in providing a great learning and practicing opportunity to the people in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to improve their communication, leadership and public speaking skills.
Islamabad Toastmasters Club conducted role players training in the fresh airs of Lake View Park last Sunday. The training was accompanied with a family get-together and lunch. Distinguished Toastmaster Mazhar Jamil conducted the training session and it was a great opportunity for everyone to learn how the play the Toastmasters meeting roles correctly and effectively.
In the weekly regular meeting, Toastmaster of the evening Toastmaster Arshad Hamid introduces the role players. The Table Topics Master Distinguished Toastmaster Mazhar Jamil conducted the Table Topics session and invited the members and guests to speak for one to two minutes on different topics. The Best Table Topics Speaker award was secured by Toastmaster Nauman Faridi.
In the prepared speeches, Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi and Toastmaster Mian Muhammad Ramzan delivered their fifth projects. Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi received the Best Speaker award. The Best Evaluator award was given to Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi while the Table Topics Master, Distinguished Toastmaster Mazhar Jamil won the Big 3 Award.

President of Islamabad Toastmasters Club, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi delivered his 10th project speech to become a Competent Communicator in the weekly meeting held at Lok Virsa.
Islamabad Toastmasters Club is a non-profit community based educational organization which provides an environment to improve public speaking and leadership skills. In the meeting held on December 8th, 2009, presiding officer, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi emphasized the importance of Communication and Public Speaking skills in his presidential address and also asked the guests for their introduction. There were several new guests present in the meeting.
Toastmaster of the evening, Toastmaster Ehsan ul Haq Abbasi gave a brief concept of the meeting format and invited the role players to explain their roles. Table Topics Master, Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi came up with a new idea. He gave a different object to each speaker and asked him to speak if he were the given objects. It was an interesting session and everyone enjoyed a lot. One of honorable guest, Mr. Abdul Wahid won the Best Table Topics Speaker award. His object was a green chilli.
In the prepared speeches, Toastmaster Naveed Zubair delivered his fifth project while Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi delivered his 10th project to become a Competent Communicator. Toastmaster Naveed Zubair received The Best Speaker award. The Best Evaluator award was given to Distinguished Toastmaster Dr. Mazhar Jamil while the General Evaluator, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi won the Big 3 Award. He also received his CC ribbon.

Islamabad Toastmasters Club held the 66th regular meeting on November 24, 2009 at Lok Virsa, Islamabad. Presiding Officer, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi emphasized the importance of Communication and Public Speaking skills in his presidential address and also asked the guests for their introduction. A very good number of guests were present in the meeting.
Toastmaster of the evening, Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi explained the meeting format and introduced the role players. Table Topics Master, Toastmaster Mumtaz Anwar conducted the session in an innovative and novel style. He created the environment according to the theme of the meeting, i.e., ‘In the Court’. He invited the members and gave them the topics as the charge sheets and asked them speak in their defense. This was marvelous and everyone enjoyed it very much. Toastmaster Nauman Faridi won the Best Table Topics Speaker award.
In the prepared speeches, Toastmaster Bilal Javed delivered his second project while Competent Leader & Communicator Toastmaster Maliha Elahi delivered her 4th speech from the Advanced Communicator’s Manual: “Story Telling”. Toastmaster Bilal Javed won the Best Speaker award. The Best Evaluator award was given to Distinguished Toastmaster Dr. Mazhar Jamil while the Table Topics Master, Toastmaster Mumtaz Anwar won the Big 3 Award.
After the meeting, the induction ceremony of a new member, Toastmaster Zaheer-ud-Din Khawaja was conducted and he was awarded with the Toastmasters membership pin and manuals.
Islamabad Toastmasters Club held the 65th regular meeting on November 17, 2009 at Lok Virsa, Islamabad. The Toastmaster of the Evening and Presiding Officer, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi conducted the meeting and emphasized the values of Toastmasters and explained the agenda and format of the meeting.
The meeting started with introduction of the role players and the guests. Table Topics Master, Toastmaster Mian Ramzan conducted the session very well. Along with the members, guests also participated and the Best Table Topics Speaker award was given to a guest Muhammad Ali.
In the prepared speeches, Toastmaster Umar Chughtai and Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi both delivered their fourth speeches according to the Competent Communicator’s manual . Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi won the Best Speaker Award. His speech topic was ‘The Success Coach’. The Best Evaluator Award was given to Distinguished Toastmaster Dr. Mazhar Jamil.
Among the big 3 roles, the General Evaluator, Toastmaster Arshad Hamid won the Big 3 Award while the First Timer ribbon was awarded to the youngest Toastmaster Immad Shahid Qureshi. Toastmaster Arshad Hamid has also completed his Competent Leadership Track however he has already done his Competent Communicator track.

Islamabad Toastmasters Club held its 64th weekly meeting on November 10th at NICS (National Institute for Cultural Studies). Meeting was presided over by Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi while Toastmaster of the evening was Toastmaster Nauman Faridi, Table topics master was Toastmaster Arshad Hamid and General evaluator was again ToastmasterMohsin Lodhi. Along with the members, six guests also attended the meeting.
The theme of the meeting was, ‘You’re in the Army’. The meeting started with introduction of the role players. Five toastmasters and one guest participated in the Table Topics session and spoke very well on different interesting topics. In the prepared speeches, Toastmaster Muhammad Amir delivered his second speech while Toastmaster Mian Muhammad Ramzan made his fourth one. Toastmaster Shahid Altaf Qureshi evaluated the Table Topics session, Toastmaster Asim Husain evaluated Toastmaster Amir and Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi evaluated Toastmaster Mian Muhammad Ramzan.
After the meeting, the presiding officer, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi gave awards to the winners. The Best Table Topics Speaker award was given to Toastmaster Imran, Best Speaker award to Toastmaster Muhammad Amir, Best Evaluator and the Big 3 awards were secured by Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi himself.

Islamabad Toastmasters, a local pubic speaking training club, celebrated the 85th anniversary of Toastmasters International on November 3rd at NICS near Lok Virsa. The colorful event was attended by a large members from all over the country and guests.
Toastmasters International was founded in October 1924 when a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name “Toastmasters.” Islamabad Toastmasters Club is a local chapter of Toastmasters International. Today, Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. Toastmasters International includes more than 199,000 men and women in more than 9,300 clubs in more than 70 countries.
President, Islamabad Toastmasters Club, Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi, welcomed the members and guests and told them a brief history of Toastmasters. Toastmaster of the evening was Distinguished Toastmaster, Mazhar Jamil, who talked about the benefits of the Toastmasters program and how it can help members polish their speaking and leadership skills. Topicsmaster was Toastmaster Nauman Faridi who invited different members and guests to speak on a random topic related to Toastmasters. This was followed by an outstanding speech from the Advanced Competent Communicator Series by former club President, Maliha Elahi. General Evaluator was Toastmaster Arshad Hamid who called different role-players to present their evaluation and feedback.
The award for best table topics speaker went to Toastmaster Mumtaz Anwar, the award for best speaker went to Toastmaster Maliha Elahi, the award for best evaluator went to Toastmaster Mohsin Lodhi, and the big 3 award went to Distinguished Toastmaster Mazhar Jamil. Before wrapping up the meeting, the president asked for feedback from guests which was very positive and a majority of the guests pledged that they would love joining the club. The meeting was followed by a sumptuous dinner and cake cutting.

Dr Ralph Smedly, the founder of Toastmasters International said” We learn best in moments of enjoyment”. Taking this cue, the President of Islamabad Toastmasters Club (ITC), Mohsin Lodhi took the initiative and selected Chinar Golf Club at Bhurban as a place for fun and learning for its executive officer training.
The President-Mohsin Lodhi, VP Education-Nauman, Faridi, VP Membership-Asim Husain, VP Public Relations-Shahid Altaf Qureshi, Treasurer-Mian Ramzan, Sergeant at-Arms- Ehsan Abbasi and Shadow VP Membership- Bilal Javed took part in this training on 18 October 2009. Executive committee officers’ training is the part of Toastmaster International’s training program toward education and excellence of its clubs’ executive committee members. Distinguished Toastmaster Dr. Mazhar Jamil conducted the training in a professional way helping every member realize his role and responsibilities. His friendly engaging and easy to-understand training style was “what you ought to know and how to do it?” made the trainees understand the objectives clearly. The training lasted for six hours. At the end, every participant had clear goals about their roles and a road map to achieving these goals.
The captivating panoramic beauty of the Golf course complemented by beautiful weather amid sizzling bar-b-queue and majestic steamy tea set the mood and energy of the participants to be all-time high. Nature never cheats. Ozone too, played its everlasting role to restore the oxygen level of the participants to keep them alert and diligent.
The President thanked the trainer and the trainees for taking their valuable time-out to take part in the meeting. He commented “It was a wonderful event which supercharged its participants to face the future challenges”. He hoped the time and money invested on the participants would bring positive change in their leadership and communication skills. He vowed to organize it again in December 2009.

After introduction of role players, the meeting was broken down into regular segments of table topics (short impromptu speeches), prepared speeches, and evaluations. There were three prepared speeches which were appreciated by the audience.

Because the theme of the meeting was hockey, whistle and colored cards were used to recreate the setting of a hockey match. After introduction of role players, the meeting was conducted according to the regular segments of table topics (short impromptu speeches), prepared speeches, and evaluations. There were two motivational speeches on positive thinking and courtesy which were appreciated by the audience.
